protip if a nerd dude tries to give you a pop quiz about the fandom on your shirt/bag/cosplay by asking you to answer a banal and obscure trivia question to prove you’re a Real Gamer, turn the question back on him. ask him about the thematic implications that bit of trivia has on the actual story. ask him about the character development and motivations of the minor characters he’s making you list. ask him if he thinks the major in-universe event he’s testing you on was successful in carrying forward the underlying tone and intent of the work itself. ask him about fucking literary devices. you know that one super tough and intimidating lit teacher everyone encounters at least once in their lifetime? become that teacher. make him sweat.
This whole “trust Tumblr blindly” thing is eventually going to kill someone, as I became pointedly aware of on one occasion I was making fun of how poorly a particular bleach-based drain declogger was working on my sink and got a chorus of really dangerously misinformed people telling me to pour vinegar in after it because all cute little cool kid diy home care blogs they’re following talk about vinegar like it it’s the big secret the cleaning companies don’t want you to know.
And I cringed knowing that someday, some Well Actually expert who read a blog article once is going to give that advice to someone who unfortunately didn’t take high school chemistry and isn’t aware that MIXING VINEGAR AND BLEACH MAKES CHLORINE GAS.

OK I actually got a full on A* for GCSE Chemistry and if I ever knew this I’ve forgotten it. Seriously reblog this.
Also don’t use bleach to clean up if your cat pees outside the littlerbox (or urine in general for that matter, species doesn’t really matter here I think). I did that in a small space and it took me a bit of coughing and wheezing and wanting to tear my eyes out before I went, “wait, fuck, I just gassed myself”.
Be aware of the chemicals you are using even if they are natural cleaners.

The web archive generally only saves your home page. And then the pages you manually put into it. So don’t assume your whole blog is backed up because you posted your home/start page into it.
There are a couple ways to back up manually. Easiest is probably getting the Web Archive app for your internet browser. It saves pages when you press the button.
How it does that is it opens a new tab. That adds the save URL to the original URL. You will need to leave that tab open until you get a dialog titled Loading Saved Page. If it’s still saying Saving. DO NOT CLOSE THE PAGE.
Now that’s great for general use. But if you are trying to back up a whole tag on your blog, going page by page with the app will take a very long time.
As of now, the fastest way I know how to do it, is to manually add the Save URL to the pages you want to save.
Now that will get you a little faster, but thanks to the fact that tumblr uses a standard page generation system, you don’t have to actively go to every page that you want to backup, which will get things a lot faster.
(PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS DO NOT WORK IF YOU HAVE A THEME THAT USES INFINITE SCROLL. PLEASE CHANGE TO A THEME WITH PAGES BEFORE TRYING THIS)
1) Open up a mass url opener website. I’ve used openallurls.com. But there are plenty of options out there.
2) Open a word document, preferably one with search replace features.
4) replace yourusername with the name of your blog. And the number sign with a page number. Usually your first page will be the number 2
5) copy and paste that whole URL onto a new line. Replace the number 2 with the number 3. Continue on until you have pages 2 through the last page you are wanting to backup. (If you have more than 199 pages. You will be able to use search replace to turn pages 100-199 into 200-299 by searching for /1 and replacing with /2)
6) copy and past the first 15 page urls into the mass url opener. If your computer can handle it you may be able to open up to 30 pages at a time. That can cause your browser to stop working.
7) Open all 15 urls. And wait until they all save. This will take an average of 5-10 minutes. You will know its done when the URLs change to something like web.archive.org/web/201812130000/yourusername.tumblr.com/page/#
8) Once those pages are saved, close them, and paste the next 15 urls into the URL opener. And open them. Closing once saved.
Continue on in this way until all your pages are saved.
3B) if you are wanting to save a tag or search your url will look more like. http://web.archive.org/save/http://yourusername.tumblr.com/your+tag+here/page/# The easiest way to get that URL is to go to it on your blog and copy it from the address bar.
